FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Just Checking: Liquor Stores Target Underage Consumption Vancouver - The Liquor Distribution Branch will require customers who appear to be under the age of 25 to produce two pieces of identification at liquor stores across the province, effective Monday,
March 17.
Liquor store employees will be required to ask all customers who appear to be under the age of 25 for two pieces of identification: a primary ID, which includes a driver's licence, BC ID card, or passport; and a secondary ID such as a CareCard, Social Insurance card, or credit card.
Public safety and social responsibility are the government's key priorities. This new policy brings government liquor stores, rural agency stores and private wine shops into line with recent changes to bars, pubs and licensee retail stores, and helps to ensure that no one under the legal drinking age of 19 has access to beverage alcohol in British Columbia.
In-store signage reminding customers that clerks are "just checking!" for two pieces of ID will reinforce the public safety and customer protection message behind this new policy.
