Inspired by pre-prohibition era, this cocktail uses bourbon, herbal liqueur and astragalus/orgeat syrup.

Wild Turkey 101 bourbon

oz (20 ml)
Fernet Branca herbal liqueur

oz (30 ml)
lemon juice

oz (20 ml)
Astragalus/Orgeat Syrup*

DIRECTIONS

  1. *You can purchase orgeat syrup at gourmet stores. Giffard Orgeat is an orgeat syrup that can be purchased at The Gourmet Warehouse in Vancouver. To make this syrup, take 5 long pieces of astragalus and steep in 1 cup (250 ml) of water, run liquid through a fine strainer then add equal parts of sugar. Add equal parts of orgeat syrup to the astragalus syrup.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake vigorously and double strainer into a fancy cocktail glass.
